Tasty, but very greasy and heavy.

by ed about Chick-fil-A Waffle Potato Fries, salted on February 23, 2008
Mmmmm... The waffle fries are great. The waffle shape makes them excellent at picking up ketchup!

by ed about Morton's, The Steakhouse (the restaurant itself) on February 23, 2008
I should go back here one of these days. It's pricey, but it's good.

by ed about Athena Grill Tirokafterí on January 16, 2008
This is by far the best dip at Athena Grill. In fact, it may be one of the best dips I've ever had!

by ed about Athena Grill Falafel Plate on December 16, 2007
The falafel here is ok, nothing special. They are reasonably tasty, but a little dry for my taste. I still love the Greek fries!

by ed about Cafe Cacao Sweet Potato Fries on December 03, 2007
Really tasty! This is a great side to be shared with the table.

by ed about Pizz'a Chicago House Salad on October 28, 2007
Typical salad. Nothing special.

by ed about Pizz'a Chicago Cookieza on October 28, 2007
I'm a sucker for a warm, chocolate chip cookie covered in ice cream. This one comes in a small, pizza style pan and the cookie is baked right in. My only real complaint is that I would prefer hot fudge to caramel for this concoction.

by ed about Pizz'a Chicago The Al Bundy* on October 28, 2007
I like Chicago style pizza. This may not have been the best I've ever had, but it was pretty good. I added chicken to it rather than stick with veggie. This one didn't really have any sauce, so I found it to be a bit dry. It still had a good flavor, mostly due to the feta cheese and garlic. The crust is pretty good too.

by ed about Athena Grill Taramosaláta on October 21, 2007
Hmmm... I'm not a big fan of caviar. Seemed a bit odd to me.

by ed about Athena Grill Hummus on October 21, 2007
Nothing special about this hummus.

by ed about Athena Grill Tzatzikí on October 21, 2007
This is a great tzatziki sauce. Lots of garlic.

by ed about Athena Grill Dip / Spread Sampler on October 21, 2007
This is a great way to sample all the different dips with bread and pita. Make sure to save room for the entrees!

by ed about Athena Grill Athena Saláta (House) on October 21, 2007
Lots of feta and olives with a nice, tangy dressing. Definitely a good salad.

by ed about Falafel Drive IN Banana Shake on October 10, 2007
This is a really good shake. Thick and creamy with real banana blended in. You can get it as part of a combo special with the falafel sandwich.

by ed about Falafel Drive IN Hummus on October 10, 2007
This is a nice, creamy hummus. It goes really well with a falafel or gyro. It comes with pita for dipping.

by ed about Looney's Smokehouse Hush Puppies with Bad Attitude Sauce on September 28, 2007
I haven't found hush puppies at too many places in the Bay Area, so just having them is a good start. These are pretty good, but a bit different then I'm used to. Though with deep fried corn bread, how can you go wrong? They've added some jalapeño to spice things up a bit. The Bad Attitude sauce is ok, but nothing special.

by ed about Alexander's Steakhouse Mashed Potatoes on September 17, 2007
Creamy mashed potatoes are always a good side.

by ed about Alexander's Steakhouse Truffled French Fries on September 17, 2007
High end twist to some basic fare.

by ed about Chili's Grill & Bar Awesome Blossom on August 13, 2007
Very tasty, but gets a bit nauseating after a while. Best if shared with a large group.

I'm not a big fan of walnuts or coconut in my desserts, otherwise this is pretty good.

by ed about Falafel Drive IN Falafel on August 13, 2007
This is the best falafel I've had in the Bay Area. The falafel balls a a bit smaller and more moist than most places. They are also very tasty. Add some tahini and hot sauce and you have a great sandwich. Try the falafel and banana shake special, what a treat!

by ed about Cascal Spanish fries on July 11, 2007
The fries are seasoned with a tasty spice which seems to be mostly chili powder. The aioli is not as tasty as other places, but it is a great compliment to the spiced fries.

by ed about Cascal Roasted Pear & Beet Salad on July 11, 2007
This is a really nice salad with sweet beets and pears. There wasn't much lettuce but there were plenty of beets. At most places it's the other way around. I really liked the spice-toasted pumpkin seeds.

by ed about Cascal Eggplant Tian on July 11, 2007
It's sort of like eggplant Parmesan without the tomato sauce. It's a bit smoky. There's not a lot of food, but what do you expect when you order tapas!

by ed about Black Bear Diner Pot Roast on July 09, 2007
The amount of food was amazing. Even the salad was huge. You definitely won't go away hungry. The pot roast is really tender. It practically melts in your mouth. I would ave liked a few more veggies with it though.

by ed about Holy Land Holy Land Lemonade on July 03, 2007
It's like a frozen, virgin mojito. A great refresher on a warm day.

by ed about Holy Land Hummus Grand Combo on July 03, 2007
Get ready for a heaping helping of Israeli hospitality. This is a big platter full of goodness. The chicken shawarma is pretty good, doused with a bit of tahini. The falafel is a little on the dry side, but there's plenty of hummus to wash it down. There's also a little salad included and a hot, fluffy pita. If you want to sample a few middle eastern dishes and have a good appetite, this is the dish for you.

by ed about Panera Bread Tomato & Fresh Basil on July 02, 2007
Not too exciting. It's your basic cheese pizza. It could use a little more garlic and basil.

by ed about Panera Bread Three Cheese on July 02, 2007
I got this as a free sample, so I can't complain about the price. It's a white style pizza, no tomato sauce. It's very cheesy and plenty of garlic. I like it!

by ed about Asqew Grill Beet Salad on June 30, 2007
This salad is pretty good, but there are not a lot of beets. The creamy Gorgonzola dressing is pretty nice.

by ed about Asqew Grill Cajun on June 30, 2007
The chicken is decent, moist and tender. The Cajun spices were pretty mild. I'm not sure what to make of the dipping sauce, it was something white and creamy.

by ed about Asqew Grill Thai BBQ on June 30, 2007
The chicken was cooked pretty well, not dry at all, but the flavor was a bit bland. The dipping sauce provided was pretty good but it seemed closer to teriyaki than anything Thai.

+ by ed about Marie Callender's (the restaurant itself) on June 29, 2007
It's really sad that they don't sell the Boston Cream Pie any more. That was my favorite by far. Maybe it was too expensive and no one was buying it. I usually on;y got it when they had the $5.99 for any pie sales.

by ed about Marie Callender's Soup and Salad Bar on June 29, 2007
Decent selection including a few different types of meat (turkey, ham, and bacon) and 3 different soups. Comes with warm cornbread.

by ed about Panera Bread Pineapple Upside-Down on June 29, 2007
Mmmmm. So good. I don't think I've ever had poppy seeds in a pineapple upside-down cake before, but it's all good. It's so moist and a bit sticky. It could use a bit more pineapple inside.

by ed about Panera Bread Strawberry Smoothie on June 26, 2007
This is a good, low fat alternative to the other I. C. drinks. It's pretty tasty, but nothing special compared to Jamba Juice and other smoothie places.

by ed about Panera Bread Chocolate Raspberry Brownie on June 21, 2007
I love all these flavors, but some how the whole was not greater than the sum of the parts. I think I would stick with the regular chocolate frosted brownie.

by ed about Panera Bread Tomato & Fresh Mozzarella on June 20, 2007
It's basically a Caprese salad. Unfortunately the tomatoes aren't so great. The mozzarella is pretty good and as are the vinaigrette and basil. The focaccia is good as expected of Panera baked goods. It's a decent light meal, but could be a lot better with some fresher ingredients.

by ed about Iguanas Taqueria Horchata on June 08, 2007
Decent, but a little watered down.

by ed about Panera Bread Cinnamon Chip on June 08, 2007
Like the cinnamon crunch bagel in a scone form. How can you go wrong. It's not as dry as some other scones, which is a good thing in my book.

+ by ed about Panera Bread Greek Salad on June 06, 2007
I'm generally a fan of Greek salads. This one is average. The main problem was they didn't include the olives. That's a pretty key ingredient for me. The dressing is pretty good, though a little more lemon wouldn't hurt. I added chicken to mine, which is pretty good. I also chose the whole wheat baguette, which is quite good, but I've come to expect quality baked goods from Panera.

by ed about Steven's Classic Philly Cheesesteaks Curly Fries on June 03, 2007
The fries are cooked to the right level of crispiness. They are a great compliment to a cheesesteak.

by ed about Cafe Artemis Lebni on May 29, 2007
A cheese dip/spread, sort of the consistency of cream cheese spread. The mint flavor made it rather unique. It comes with pita.

by ed about Cafe Artemis (the restaurant itself) on May 29, 2007
I enjoyed the food, but the service was a bit sketchy. There was only one other patron in the restaurant when I was there, but the waiter spent most of the time talking to him and ignoring us. Fortunately there was a busboy/server who was very attentive to most of our needs, but he needed to get the waiter for us so we could order, and we waited quite a while to get the check.

by ed about Cafe Artemis Classic Greek Salad on May 29, 2007
This is different from the typical Greek salad I have had other places. In this case the veggies are freshly cut and doused with a bit of olive oil. A wedge of lemon is provided for you to add as desired. The feta has a bit stronger flavor then I am used to, but I liked it. Over all a pretty nice salad.

by ed about It's A Grind Coffee House (the restaurant itself) on May 25, 2007
New coffee shop is the first store opened in this new strip mall. It has a similar atmosphere to other coffee house chains. The downside is limited parking and somewhat limited seating.

This is more like a shake than a coffee drink, but that's ok with me. The black cherry flavor is pretty interesting, and I enjoy the little bits of chocolate covered espresso beans.

by ed about Hally K Ono Cafe (the restaurant itself) on May 23, 2007
This is a nice little restaurant in and old house in downtown San Jose. The service is friendly if a little slow. The food is quite good and reasonably priced.

by ed about Hally K Ono Cafe Sweet Potato Fries on May 23, 2007
These fries are awesome. They have some sort of light coating that makes them a little crunchy. I love sweet potato!

by ed about Athena Grill (the restaurant itself) on May 22, 2007
This is the kind of Greek restaurant I like: good food, friendly service and not so snooty or upscale. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. I like the blue ant white checkered tablecloths.

by ed about Athena Grill Greek Style Fries on May 22, 2007
The fries come with many of the meals, but I wanted to review them separately since you can order them as a side. The taste very fresh, as if you cut them and friend them yourself. They are not very greasy and therefore not so heavy. The Greek spices seem to be mainly salt, garlic and parsley from what I can tell. In any case, they are some of the best fries I have had. The fries themselves are better than Gordon Biersch and if they had more garlic I think these Greek Style Fries would win hands down.

by ed about Primanti Brothers (the restaurant itself) on May 14, 2007
I stopped by their new place in Ft. Lauderdale. I haven't been to Pramanti Bros. since my university days in Pittsburgh, PA. This shop is a lot newer and cleaner than the old place in Pittsburgh's Strip District. They also have table service here, which was pretty prompt and courteous. I did not take the chance to become reacquainted with Iron City Beer, but I suppose that's just as well.

by ed about Panera Bread (the restaurant itself) on May 07, 2007
Some times I use Panera as my "office." It has fee wireless with pretty good speed, it's not too loud (they play some jazzy music in the background), and there's plenty of food and drink. Free refils on the fountain drinks and basic coffee.

by ed about Marie Callender's Slice Of Cream Cheese on May 07, 2007
If you like cheese cake, you'll probably like this pie. The main ingredient is a cheesecake style cream cheese filling. I'm not a big fan of their graham cracker crust.

by ed about Bar Code Almond Milk Tea with Pearls on April 23, 2007
I generally like the pearl tea at Bar Code, but this one was disappointing. It was very weak, bot the tea and almond flavors. The pearls were still good though.

by ed about Hydration Pearl Milk Tea on April 23, 2007
The tea is pretty good, but I like it just a little sweeter. The tapioca pearls are sweetened nicely, but they could be softer. This was my first visit to Hydration. It's a nice enough place, but they don't have WiFi and they charge $1 per hour just to use their electricity.

by ed about Panera Bread I.C. Mocha Almond on April 19, 2007
I could do without the toasted coconut. Pretty good, but I would stick with the capuccino chip or caraemel.

by ed about Panera Bread I.C. Caramel on April 19, 2007
More like a shake than a coffee drink, which is ok with me.

by ed about Mango Caribbean "Banana Tree" on April 12, 2007
Similar to bananas foster except for the chocolate drizzle and coconut flavored ice cream. I barely even noticed the chocolate, which was fine since the sauce is already quite good. The bananas were cooked pretty well: soft but not mushy. The coconut ice cream is a nice touch.

by ed about Mango Caribbean “Negril Beach” on April 12, 2007
This is a great bread pudding. The pudding itself is dense and quite good, but it's the sauce that really shines. The rum sauce is think and golden brown. The rum raisin ice cream is a great accompaniment.

by ed about Mango Caribbean “Kingstown Town” on April 12, 2007
This is pretty good as a side dish, but I like my plantains a little riper and sweeter.

by ed about Mango Caribbean “Trinidad Special” on April 12, 2007
I had the chicken roti. The roti is thin and chewy. The curry chicken filling was flavorful without being over powering. You can choose how spicy you want it: mild, medium or hot. It's sort of like a Caribbean burrito. It came with red beans & rice and some vegetables.

by ed about Mauds Ice Cream Poor Bear's Delight on April 12, 2007
Creamy ice cream with bits of honeycomb. Would prefer a bit more flavor but it's quite good. A single scoop is pretty small but the cone is quite tall.

by ed about Outback Steakhouse Bloomin' Onion on April 12, 2007
This is quite good, especially with the dipping sauce. Though if I eat much it starts to make me a little nauseas.

by ed about Mio Vicino Rum Raisin Bread Pudding on April 10, 2007
The bread pudding is light and creamy, but it did not have enough spices and sweetness for my taste.

by ed about Mio Vicino Greek Salad on April 10, 2007
This is definitely not my favorite Greek salad, but it's not too bad. The mint was a bit odd to me and the dressing could have used more lemon and oregano.

by ed about Swagat Indian Cuisine South Indian Combo on April 10, 2007
Swagat was the first place I ever tried dosa, so I may be a little biased. Their sambar is also quite good.

by ed about Panera Bread Cinnamon Crunch Bagel on April 10, 2007
Really good bagel, especially tosted with a little cream cheese. The cinnamon and sugar is caramelized on the top to make it crunchy.

by ed about Fresh Choice Granny's Tapioca Pudding. on April 10, 2007
This is usually quite good, though a little inconsistent. I like it best when it's really thick. Try some with the chocolate brownie or the bread pudding muffin. You can eat as much as you like which could be considered a plus or a minus.

by ed about Pasta Pomodoro Insalata di Spinaci on April 10, 2007
The best salad at Pasta Pomodoro. The bacon and caramelized onions really make the salad. You can get this as a side salad or an entree.

by ed about Udupi Palace Masala Dosa on April 06, 2007
The dosas here are fresh and crispy and the masala filling is quite tasty. It comes with sambar and a really good coconut chutney. You can add idly or vada or just order the Udupi Special which comes with both.

by ed about Udupi Palace Plain Uthappam on April 06, 2007
I like the dosas better, but the uthappam are also pretty good. There are a bunch of different versions you can get, but even the plain one is pretty good.

by ed about Taqueria Los Cunados Chips and Salsa Bar on April 06, 2007
You can't beat the price! The chips are average, but some of the salsas are exceptional. I love the green salsa. It's creamy (avocado maybe?) and a little sour. The red salsas are ok and the salsa fresca is pretty good.

by ed about Taqueria Los Cunados Horchata on April 06, 2007
If you like milk and cinnamon, you gotta try horchata. It is a rice based drink which may or may not contain milk, but is in any case quite "milky". Los Cunados makes theirs in a big jar and ladles it our in Styrofoam cups. It is well sweetened and just the right touch of cinnamon and other spices. It's a great accompaniment for a super beef burrito.

by ed about Fresh Choice Athenian Greek Salad on April 04, 2007
This is their best pre-made salad yet!

+ by ed about Tapioca Express Chocolate Milk Tea w/Pearls on April 03, 2007
This is probably my favorite pearl tea drink. The pearls are really good at Tapioca Express: chewy and a little sweet. they basically just add chocolate syrup to their normal milk tea, but it's quite tasty.

by ed about Panera Bread I.C. Cappuccino Chip on April 03, 2007
I love this cold coffee drink. It's basically a blended, iced coffee drink with cappuccino chip blended in. The chips really make the drink, although sometimes they blend it too much. Then the chips are just powder. It's much better when the chips are still a little chunky.

by ed about Chili's Molten Chocolate Cake on March 09, 2007
Who can say no to steaming hot, molten chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream on top? I sure can't. The "Magic Shell" style chocolate topping and caramel drizzle make it even more irresistible.
